A lovely Saxon lady. A fierce Norman knight. Can an innocent maid's gentle surrender quench the fire raging in the heart of a brutal warrior knight?
Young, lovely Lady Rhiann of Saxony is captured by the brutal Norman invaders after the fall of her father's estates and is taken to London at the command of the Norman Duke William who would be king. By the king's command she is wed to his loyal vassal, Nathan, who was awarded her father's estates as a reward for his faithful service.
She hoped her parents did not judge her too harshly from where they looked down on her from heaven. What choice did she have, after all?
Now, she fought against the terror of the coming consummation of her fateful choice. She was not so naïve she did not recognize desire in a man's eyes. As much as her Norman husband wanted her father's estates he was awarded as a condition of their marriage, she suspected he was not inclined to forego enjoying fully all of the rights granted to him as her husband. She belonged to him now. In the eyes of the law and the church she was his property, to do with as he wished.
He promised he wouldn't hurt her. After months of war, Rhiann was afraid to trust the word of her enemy, but she feared more not being able to trust him. So she battled against the panic rising within her at the contemplation of the night ahead, resisting the urge to give into her terror. The queen left her just moments ago, leaving her with the promise her new husband would join her soon.
The queen’s prediction proved accurate. The heavy door barely closed behind Matilda when Rhiann heard it creak open again. She stood in front of the hearth trying to draw ragged breaths into her suddenly tight throat. She refused to turn around; hoping a few more moments would help her gather her courage to face the terror of the night ahead.
Nathan stepped into his room and closed the door behind him, sliding the wood latch into place to bar any interruptions. He saw his wife stiffen at his entrance. He drew in a deep breath in an attempt to calm his raging needs. His bride’s slender form was outlined by the light from the fire. The see-through gown did little to hide her naked body from his avid gaze. He needed to gather his discipline before she turned to face him, lest he terrify her with his lustful intent. He drew a steadying breath, willing his thudding heart to slow down. He was never going to be able to summon the patience he was certain would be needed to gain his bride’s trust if he couldn’t clear his head and slow his body’s incessant urging to take the maid and have done with it. “Rhiann.”
Her name echoed in the hushed silence of the room. Reluctantly Rhiann turned to face the man who was now her husband. Her arms were wrapped around her stomach in a protective gesture and in what she knew was a foolish attempt to cover herself as much as possible. The way Nathan’s glance raked over her she recognized she would be defenseless against his greater strength. Just as she was unable to stop the Norman siege on Heaven’s Crest, she would be unable to prevent her husband’s assault on her virgin’s body. She shivered involuntarily at the thought of what was to come.
Not wanting to give the terror his bride was unable to hide from him a chance to take hold, Nathan held her glance and demanded, “Come to me, wife.” He winced at the sound of his harsh command in the silence of the room. He was already struggling to contain his raging desire. He suspected his self-control would be tested tonight in a way he was never tested before. When his innocent wife took an instinctive step back towards the heat of the fire he could almost believe from the blind panic he read in her eyes she found going up in flames a more preferable option to a night spent in his bed. Hoping not to push her any further, he added softly, “Do you remember your vows to the priest?” At her reluctant nod, he added, "Do you intend to keep it

I liked this book a lot, medieval romances are my favorite, and I really wish they would make more of a comeback. The heroine Rhiann is presumed to be the only person still alive in her family after the Norman invasion. The king bestows Rhiann and her father's estate to a loyal Norman warrior Nathan. There isn't as much angst and fighting between Rhiann and Nathan as the reader may expect. Rhiann really understands that she has no choice but to marry Nathan, and Nathan is very happy to wed Rhiann and take her estate.Rhiann and Nathan's story is very passionate and the love scenes get pretty hot. After the initial conflict between Saxon and Norman, the middle of the book drags a bit, and as a reader I really wanted Rhiann to open up to Nathan and answer his questions about her family and her past. If Rhiann didn't share with Nathan, I at least wanted to read her inner thoughts.
Rhiann is charged by her deceased mother to be the keeper of a family heirloom necklace, but she really doesn't want the necklace and believes it belongs to her older sister Melissa. Everyone believes Melissa is dead, but the necklace has helped Rhiann believe that Melissa is not dead. The second book in the series, which I will read, looks to be about Melissa and Luke who you get to meet in this book. This book is very good, highly recommended, and I plan to carry on with the series. I don't know exactly how historically accurate the story is, but I don't read these for historical accuracy, I am just really happy to see some medieval romances being published again!

Keeper of the Stone Norman Brides Book 1 edition by Lynn Wood Romance eBooks Reviews
This book was good entertainment will read the follow up books to just finish the set and if I wish to read more of this author's novels. Story is good and hold he racers attention and keeps me turning the Page's for the next adventure.
I enjoyed the book it was a quick fast read. Rhiann is only sixteen and naïve to a point. She also is one of those people who is so innocence and beautiful, and everyone just loves and almost worships her. She is just so sweet most of the time, that she has no hatred of the Normans. They all treat her kindly and after one night in her husband's bed she is in love with him. If you hate that then you will probably hate the book. She is direct with people. She takes everything people say, especially her husband literally, and in trying to make her naïve about the world, the author does kind of make her seem almost stupid, though she is not, and that was not the intent of the author. There are a couple conversations with her husband that go this route and that is why people are complaining she is stupid. She is not by any means stupid. She is just trying to understand. She also goes off on tangents ever now and then. That also may lead people who are missing the point, to think she is ditzy.
Nathan is one of Williams's friends and commanders. They trained together. Though Nathan is not the first son, so will not inherit, and he is born to a lower noble, he has fought to win a place, and be the best. This is what William likes about him. After William meets Rhiann even though she is defiant and almost disrespectable to William, he feels sorry for her, and gives her to Nathan because he is younger and he does not want Rhiann's spirit broken. He knows Nathan is patient and will not break her, as well as the fact he owns Nathan for the men he provided for the war. Nathan wants land and never expected to be given such a prize as all the land the king gave him, as well as Rhiann, who as I stated is just so beautiful. Of course he too is falling in love from almost the first minute he really saw her. Nathan is trying to be firm but gentle with her since she is so naïve. He can' get past the sexual urges most of the time. He expected to marry someone after the war to get her land. He has no feels for her, and being a warrior, he doesn't see love as something he needs in his life.
There is a lot of sex, though somewhat detail, it is not extremely explicated, though some people will think it is. The book basically, describes some of the day and then that night they have sex, then the next day, and that night they have sex, etc.... I did not mind it though someone else did. I however like those scenes when done right. The story is mostly about them getting to know each other. Throw in a jilted woman at the end, and last minute villain to try and make it more exciting. Some may find it boring, because it is not an in-depth story and there is not more excitement. I was fine with it. Also everything is not all tied up in the end as there are still her older sister and her older brother, who are twins, that we do not know if they are alive. Of course those stories are book 2 and book 3 of the series. So this is one of those series you need to read in order, or it is better if you do.
I will say I love to read romance around William the conquerors time period, as I like the struggle between the two main characters. However lately it seems like the books we get around this period there is not struggle between the characters. The female just accepts this is how it is and life goes on, and they are just sweet. I do miss those books.

Author Lynn Wood writes romance novels – and her output is staggering! She tends to writing is sets of books that allow her fantasy to continuously enlarge and explore all the possibilities of her initial plot line. As she is want to state, she writes ‘about the intersection of the supernatural with everyday life. Where does reality end and fantasy begin?’ THE NORMAN BRIDE SERIES, of which this book is the initial volume, is set in medieval times in the Norman invasion of Saxony and Lynn proves a fine sense of perspective and research for the stage on which she places characters that become unforgettable by book’s end – awaiting the further adventures in subsequent volumes.
On her site WritersBlockNot.com Lynn elects to share a portion of the first chapter and a more seductive way to engage lovers of romance novels could not be written. A bit of that opening proves that point ‘The smell of death engulfed her. The clash of swords, the angry shouts of men engaged in a fierce battle for their lives, and the moaning of the dying assaulted her senses. The blood of the fallen pooled at her feet, turning the lush green grass of autumn a deep red to match the changing leaves in the trees of the forest providing a backdrop to the deadly scene. The duchess accepted her own blood would soon join that of the dead and dying lying unattended like so much refuse at her feet. Death stalked her, surrounded her, and beckoned to her, whispering words of their impending introduction in her ears. She no longer contested against its sly promises of release from her grief. Despair pounded relentlessly against her battered spirit until she could no longer rouse her will to do battle against its heavy weight as one loss after another was heaped upon her slender, unprepared shoulders these past dark weeks, choking off what little light remained within. She felt guilty about the cowardly deed she was contemplating but not enough to turn aside from her sinful intent. Besides, it was too late now for regrets. The battle raged around them and would soon be upon her. She prayed to God her end would come with merciful swiftness. Was she not entitled to some small parcel of his mercy? Had she not strived enough, suffered enough, clung to this life he chose for her hard enough to satisfy him? Without her husband, who rested beside two of their sons in the family burial plot by the chapel on the ridge, the life she elected as a young girl no longer held any appeal for the woman who still lingered within in its unrelenting grip. Her husband’s faithful guards would lead her younger daughter, Rhiann, to safety. God willing she would elude the pitiless grasp of the enemy who even now surrounded Heaven’s Crest, closing off all escape routes. She prayed they had not discovered the secret passages built into the thick walls of the old keep, else her daughter and those escorting her would be trapped. She spared a few precious moments to wonder about the fate of her remaining children, her beloved twins, Michel and Melissa.’
For openers that is difficult to match. Lynn is a strong writer and doubtless will gather a solid following for her fine books. Grady Harp, November 15
