John Smith enjoyed fly fishing and decided he had to live in the heart of wild trout country. When he took on the job of deputy sheriff in the small town of Ten Mile, Montana, he figured he would have ample time for fishing. He had no idea that his attempts to solve the murder of a young woman he found tangled in a cottonwood sweeper in the Yellowstone River would embroil him in romance with a stripper and battles with bikers, militant fundamentalists, and meth dealers.

This was a slow read. It took me a long time to get through it. The plot was hampered by a rather a rather pedestrian protagonist who seemed to get himself into some ridiculous situations. It is as if the problems he encountered were manufactured merely to keep the story line tripping along. The line with the prostitute and the bikers, which culminated in the shootout at the house was hard to believe, as was the mob and the drug lab at the ranch. The only thing I liked was the fishing, although I would prefer a small creek meandering through a meadow. I wasted my money and my time. Ten Mile should really be called Snooze Ville. Yawn.Product details

Good story, we'll written . Enjoyed it.
This is an enjoyable weekend read. Just enough suspense, just enough sex, and almost enough Montana. I recomend it those are your cup of tea.
It has been awhile since I read this book, but I liked it because it was about a small town in Montana. Story is a little weird and unbelievable but keeps you interested.
Ten Mile. That is quite a name for a novel, and what a good novel it is. Excellent read. John Smith is an avid fly fisherman who probably enjoys fly fishing more than anything else. And I mean anything else. When he decides that he wants to live in wild trout country in Montana, he does so. And he also takes on the job of deputy sheriff in the town of Ten Mile where he figures that he can do his job and enjoy lots of fly fishing as well. But when he attempts to solve the murder of a young woman he finds tangled in the roots of a tree on the river, things start to happen fast and I won't spoil the story by saying anything else except, this is a must read. A good story that will keep you on the edge of your seat..
A rookie cop keeps, surprisingly, getting himself out of serious trouble. Good characters. An enjoyable veteran sheriff offers sage advice. The author spreads his stories around. I'll find another.
Good book
I guess I like murder mysteries that put more emphasis on the intellectual aspect of solving the crime rather than resorting to a lot of violence; not that I have a problem with violence. You always need some, violence that is. Sex is good too, but does it have to be with a stripper and do you have to "do it" three times in one night and twice again in the morning. Doesn't the author realize he is making his fifty-plus readership feel pretty darn impotent.
